[email skyler]
August 5, 2004 Skyler brushed his teeth all by himself today!
August 4, 2004 Skyler is saying the "F word" randomly. I swear to god, I didn't teach him that!
August 3, 2004 Skyler has now started singing the A-B-C song. He hasn't mastered it yet (so some of it comes out in a mumble) but it is so cute to hear. He also sings along with the song about the old oak tree by making the animal noises.
July 30, 2004 Skyler recognizes all the numbers from 1 to 5. He can also pick out A, O, W, T, Y, E and say the letters in his name when he sees them.
July 7/8, 2004 I'm rocking Skyler before bed, and singing him an "I love you" song. Then I stopped and said "I love you Skyler" and he said "I love papa". The next morning, I went to get Skyler out of his crib, and I said "can you say I love papa?" and he said "I love papa" so I said "Can you say I love mama?" and he said "mama, I love papa". Daddy's boy, for sure.
July 3, 2004 I heard him say "W-X-Y-Z" in the back seat of the car.
July 2, 2004 I heard Skyler count from 1 to 10!
June 2, 2004 Its been far too long. I'm beginning to feel like a bad mommy ;-) Here are his milestones:

TALKING
+ Skyler has MANY words in his vocabulary: eat, no, yes, hot, cold, banana, go, apple juice, to-to (for tofu), cheese (which he doesn't like to eat, but loves to say), book, read, truck (sounds more like "kuk"), more, eye, ear, hair, nose, chin, cheek, teeth, bath, I want that, mama, bear, moon, phone, car, our car, park, and more I can't remember
+ Skyler now plays the game "Can you say ... ?" where you ask him to say a word and he tries to repeat it. In this way, he has said dude, Brooke, Christine (tistine), Russ, Peter, and other words.
+ He signs occaisionally, but mainly uses words. Nevertheless, I am convinced that the Signing Time videos (and our use of sign language around the house and at day care) have helped his verbal development

PERSONALITY
+ He is still one of the happiest babies I have met!
+ He does have his tantrum moments. Especially when he knows we know what he wants, but he still can't get it.
+ He is a little shy at first, but warms up to people quite quickly.
+ He still loves Baby Einstein, but prefers Elmo and Sesame Street (he can now say 3 of the 4 Teletubbie's names)
+ We are lucky if Skyler sleeps 2 hours a day. He has started skipping his nap on occaision, much to my dismay.

EATING
+ He feeds himself quite easily now - spooning cold cereal and applesauce with equal gusto. + He still loves tofu above all else. Another favorite is Morningstar Farms fake chicken nuggets (I like them too) + Skyler prefers chinese food (chow mein, potstickers) to mexican food + Skyler has gone to a couple of restaurants and behaves pretty well.

SKILLS
+ He can follow basic directions, like: "put that back", "put your arms up", "come sit on my lap"
+ He now RUNS everywhere. He loves chasing after his cousin Tiberious all over the house.
+ He tried to jump from a crouch. He goes through the motions, but doesn't quite get his feet off the ground.
+ He can climb his new play structure, and go down the slide by himself.
+ He claps and dances when he hears music.
August 20, 2003 Talk about work getting in the way... ahem! Massive journal entry. So much has happened I'm going to have to group the milestones. Here goes! SOUNDS PERSONALITY EATING SKILLS
October 10, 2003 Skyler is one year old today!

July 02, 2003 Skyler is getting his THIRD tooth! yay!
July 01, 2003 Skyler got a mini piano from Jen Moxely. So cute, I have to post pictures!
June 30, 2003 He has a new fascination with the koosh ball at the Mars'. He likes to hold it above his head, only his arms are so short, it looks like he is holding it on top of his head.
June 28, 2003 He just gets cuter and cuter when he wakes up in the morning. "di di di da. bwa bwa. di di da da da!"
June 25, 2003 He is getting his second tooth! No wonder sleep has been so difficult lately... And we weren' the first to notice - Auntie Rebecca was. What kind of parents are we? :-)
June 24, 2003 He pulled himself up to standing for the first time. On the saucer.
June 22, 2003 Skyler now takes most of his naps in the crib, and he starts the night off in the crib too!
June 20, 2003 Here is a list of foods Skyler is eating: pears, apples, applesauce, nectarines, peaches, grapes, cucumber, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, sweet potatoes, rice cereal, Kashi cereal, cheerios, wheat free teething buscuits, couscous, yogurt. On occaision we caved and have given him: tortillas, sourdough bread, flatbread, pita, red wine, white wine, beer.
June 18, 2003 He CRAWLS! <gasp> EGADS!
June 13-15, 2003 We took Skyler on his first camping trip with the Mars and Grooms. Fun was had by all. Skyler loved the great outdoors - can't wait for the next trip!
June 10, 2003 Happy 8 month birthday Skyler!
May 30, 2003 Big morning! Skyler said "papa" for the first time in bed, and then he pooped in the toilet!
May 29, 2003 Skyler actually held onto a chair while he was standing up. Of course mommy was close by, just in case.
May 28, 2003 Skyler and mommy flew down to Long Beach to see Uncle Ben graduate from college. Woohoo!
May 27, 2003 He is so close to crawling. Mostly he pushes himself back, but doesn't have the trick of resisting with his knees/legs yet, so he pushes himself backwards.
May 10, 2003 Happy 7th month Birthday Skyler!
May 9, 2003 I didn't think it possible, but he is drooling even more than ever. I started singing him "Drool me a River".
May 8, 2003 His new favorite song is the "ABC" song. When I sing it or it plays on his toy, he starts to wiggle.
May 7, 2003 Skyler is cutting his first tooth! WOW!!! You can just feel it poking up through the gum.
May 5, 2003 Skyler is getting better and better at sitting up. Now we spend time practicing every day.
May 3, 2003 I was nursing Skyler and he reached his hand up to make the milk sign. COMMUNICATION! **GASP**
May 1, 2003 Skyler was sitting next to a cardboard box full of books; he grabbed the top edge and actually pulled his bottom off the ground.
April 30, 2003 Mimi had Skyler (we were out at her place in Danville) and I saw her make the milk sign for Skyler and he grabbed her fist and pulled it to his mouth (I think he is catching on!)
April 26, 2003 Skyler had his first fear of object - the vaccuum cleaner at Lorraine's house for Tracey & Ron's shower (which was lovely - got to see Grandpa Myron, Grandma Margie & GranMimi)
April 25, 2003 Today we visited Nana and Papa, Skyler's great-grandparents! Pictures coming soon.
April 24, 2003 Skyler and Cypress sat up and played with blocks together for the first time!
April 22, 2003 Skyler can now rollover on command, and at will.
April 20, 2003 I saw Skyler passing his spoon from one hand to the other today!
April 17, 2003 Skyler coughed today and Darcy said "he's got SARS!" which now I have started saying every time he coughs. sheesh!
April 15, 2003 Skyler likes to raise both feet in the air (when he is on his back) and then bring them down quickly to THUMP them on the crib mattress (or floor).
April 10, 2003 Skyler was VERY FUSSY today. Myabe he is teething, or maybe he is just BORED.
April 9, 2003 Skyler's new nickname: "catfish boy". He likes to put both his hands right by his mouth when he wants to simultaneously feel and tongue something. Its like he has feelers near his mouth (hence the name).
April 7, 2003 Skyler took an almost cartoonish header off the couch in the Parkway theater. Cartoonish because of the way his mommy caught him a mere inch or so above the floor! WHEW
April 6, 2003 In the words of my friend Harriet, "screeching is fun!" :-) Skyler has taken to screeching to his (and my) amusement, scaring some of the other babies within range.
April 5, 2003 Skyler is beginning to reach for his mama (heh heh heh)
April 4, 2003 He deliberately rolled himself over for the first time!
April 3, 2003 We (mama & Skyler) had dinner with grandpa and Skyler decided to eat the paper placemat as he sat on my lap. He started at one corner, then used both hands to try to shove the whole thing in his mouth. Grandpa and mama laughed so hard, we cried.
April 1, 2003 Since I have been with Skyler full-time, it has gotten harder for anyone but me to put him to sleep. Darcy tried and he SCREAMED. So mama put him down, making her 15 minutes late for her first client meeting!
March 31, 2003 Skyler babbles more and more these days: "bwa bwa bwa bwa bwa". It is beginning to sound like he is trying to say "pa pa" too, which is how Darcy refers to himself when talking to Skyler.
March 27, 2003 Skyler has a bed-time routine, which we just started after I left work:
1. bedtime story
2. bath
3. massage
4. nurse
5. fall fast asleep!
So tonight we are in the middle of massage and Skyler does this thing he has been doing occaisionally - wiggling his whole body like a fish trying to swim upstream. And THEN on his tummy, he actually PUSHED UP ONTO HIS KNEES AND ELBOWS and kinda scooted back and forth before going back down again. whew!
March 26, 2003 Christine and I took Cypress and Skyler for a walk, and decided to stop and have tea. The kids were so loud, we decided to hurry to finish our drinks so that we could leave the other patrons in peace! Skyler is getting SO LOUD - and he babbles almost non-stop now.
March 25, 2003 This morning I put Skyler down on his blanket, and he rolled from his back to his front for the first time with no help! EEEK - can you say "babyproofing" boys and girls?
March 24, 2003 Skyler is becoming more and more vocal - babbling in the back seat of the car, during a movie ... sometimes it's hard to keep my eyes off him, waiting to see what he will do or say next! He is also growing out of a lot of his clothes - time to shop again, I guess.
March 22, 2003 And he was doing so well today. At about 6pm, Skyler had a mini-meltdown at home. He got SO over stimulated, could NOT calm himself down. I put him in his crib for a time-out; when I checked on him, his eyes were open wide, and it seemed like sparks were shooting from them as he flailed his arms and legs. Laughing maniacally when I went to change him. When he finally went to sleep he was OUT.
March 20, 2003 Skyler got to see his grandparents (Ben & Georgia), great-uncle Jerry, and great-grandparents (nana & papa) for dinner. He DEFINITELY is saying "mama" - validation from people other than his mother ;-)
March 21, 2003 Skyler has discovered Christine's hair (grabbing and pulling). Mommy is rethinking growing her hair out! Skyler is reaching for everything now, its so exciting (and a little scary!)
March 20, 2003 He is sooooo close to rolling over. We are a little overwhelmed at the prospect of baby-proofing our house. SO MUCH STUFF LYING AROUND!!!
March 19, 2003 We have been feeding Skyler rice cereal for a couple days now - he doesn't seem wild about it (hahaha) but he doesn't dislike it either. I think he still prefers the breast.
March 18, 2003 Dressing has now become a battle. Mommy puts a shirt over Skyler's head, then as soon as the arms go into the sleeves, Skyler tries to put his fists in his mouth.
March 17, 2003 Yay! Mommy's first week day at home off work. Skyler and mommy have a great time. Skyler shakes his head back and forth when I try to put him down for a nap.
March 8, 2003 Skyler days "mama" (I know he doesn't know what he is saying, but it feels good anyway!)
March 7, 2003 Skyler decides to hurl, then choke at the Berkeley Bowl. Paramedics are called, and Skyler and mommy stay overnight at Kaiser(everyone is alright now!)
March 5, 2003 The Wildes return from Italy!
February 19, 2003 The Wildes leave for Italy!
February 14, 2003 Happy Valentine's Day! Time for shots. Ouch!! Never a fun time for Skyler or mommy.
February 13, 2003 Skyler has taken to making a motorboat noise: "bbbbbbbbb"
February 12, 2003 Skyler has started saying "boo boo boo" which ends up being more like "mbooo-mboooo-mboooo"
February 11, 2003 An auspicious day - Skylyer's first belly button lint is found
February 10, 2003 Skyler is 4 months today! Grandma and Grandpa Fuller came by to celebrate (any excuse to see their grandson, I'm sure! ;-)
February 5, 2003 We have taken to putting a bib on Skyler since he is drooling at a PHENOMENAL rate
February 3, 2003 This week we had new people in our house taking care of Skyler: our dear friend Brooke and her dear friend Denise.
January 28, 2003 Skyler has a cold :( I took him to Kaiser tonight. He weighs 15lbs 14oz (with his clothes on) and is 24.5 inches long!!!
January 27, 2003 Today was mommy's birthday :D Grandpa and Grandma came over to celebrate, and we showed them one of Skyler's favorite games: you kiss and growl on his belly, and he grabs your hair and squeals and laughs.
January 26, 2003 I saw him reach out and touch the mirror next to the changing table for the first time. Usually he just looks at himself!
January 25, 2003 I helped him roll over, then saw him push up onto his forearms for the first time! Pictures coming soon :-)
January 23, 2003 I swear Skyler is getting louder and louder! What a set of lungs on that kid... I drove him home last night and he was "ohhhaahOHHHAAAAHHaaaahhhohhh" -ing the whole way
January 21, 2003 Skyler has a new favorite game: "Being Eaten By Wolves" - we growl near his cheeks and belly, and we bite and pull his jumper while growling. He loves it!
January 20, 2003 When I picked up Skyler at GranMimi & Grandpa John's house, she showed me how Skyler was "doing the hula" - she would hold his arms while he stood on her lap, swaying
January 18, 2003 He actually laughed today! Before he would make a happy "ahhh" sound with a big toothless ring. This time there was a definite "heh heh heh" to it (yay!)
January 15, 2003 He is beginning to grab things and pull them to his mouth. First it was his clothes, then our fingers, and now he is doing it to his toys.
